Ad Hoc Intergovernmental Task Force on Fruit and Vegetable Juices (TFFJ)
Ad Hoc Intergovernmental Task Force on Fruit and Vegetable Juices
The 23rd Session of the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CAC) in 1999 established the Ad Hoc Intergovernmental Task Force on Fruit and Vegetable Juices (TFFJ). TFFJ was tasked to address some issues that remained after the abolition of the Group of Experts on Fruit Juices (GEFJ) and was expected to complete its work prior to CAC26. It was hosted by Brazil.
TTFJ debated and proposed appropriate brix levels for juices and purees. Task force work also entailed discussion of processing aids, including isinglass and sodium and potassium caseinates. Since these can entail allergenicity, it was agreed that revisions to relevant standards would include labelling rules on processing aids that were not required by the Codex Committee on Food Labelling (CCFL) and its General standard for the labelling of pre-packaged foods (CXS 1-1985).
With the adoption of the minimum brix levels for reconstituted juice and reconstituted purée and minimum juice and/or purée contents for fruit nectars at CAC28 (which were incorporated into the General standard for fruit juices and nectars (CXS 247-2005)), the TFFJ was dissolved.
