Codex Committee On Natural Mineral Waters (CCNMW)

The Codex Committee on Natural Mineral Waters (CCNMW) was established in 1965, chaired by Switzerland. It aimed to elaborate regional standards on natural mineral waters for Europe. 

CAC19 converted the Committee to a worldwide committee, with a view to the regional standard for natural mineral waters being developed as an international standard. CCNMW was also charged with developing a standard applicable to bottled or packaged waters other than "natural mineral waters.” With the adoption of the General standard for bottled/packaged drinking waters (CXS 227-200) in 2001, the CCNMW was adjourned sine die. 

The reactivation of the Committee in 2007 was prompted by the need to review and amend the Standard for natural mineral waters (CXS 108-1981) owing to discrepancies with the WHO Guidelines for Drinking Water Quality. In 2008, that work was discontinued and outstanding issues on methods of analysis and sampling procedures and hygienic practice transferred to CCMAS and CCFH respectively. CCNMW was adjourned sine die for the third time in 2008.
