Driving coordinated Codex engagement in Near East region

by the Sultanate of Oman as Coordinator for CCNE

Codex Contact Points (CCPs) from the CCNE region and Arab Member Countries convened on 26 January 2026 for the 44th Coordination Meeting, chaired by Dr. Intisar Al-Gharibi, CCNE Coordinator from the Sultanate of Oman. The meeting was held under the umbrella of the Arab Codex Initiative, jointly implemented by the Arab Industrial Development, Standardization and Mining Organization (AIDSMO) and the Global Food Regulatory Science Society (GFoRSS), the disciplinary group of IUFoST, reinforcing regional coordination and collective engagement in Codex work.

The meeting provided a platform for CCPs to exchange views, align regional priorities, and refine the proposed regional work plan of the Arab Codex Initiative, supporting strengthened and coordinated participation in Codex work. Following these deliberations, the work plan was formally endorsed, ensuring full consistency with the CCNE workplan adopted at CCNE12 and alignment with the Codex Strategic Plan 2026–2031. The approved plan will serve as a guiding framework for regional coordination and for effective, coherent engagement of CCNE and Arab Member Countries in upcoming Codex processes and meetings.
