Strengthening Grenada's voice in global food standards

On 5 June 2026, the Grenada Bureau of Standards hosted a training session for members of the National Codex Committee and the GDBS team, facilitated by Giuseppe Di Chiera of the Codex Secretariat.
During the session, participants gained valuable insights into the operation and functions of Codex, as well as the various ways Grenada can actively participate in Codex activities and contribute to the development of international food standards.
“The training provided was insightful, valuable, and well-tailored to our current needs, particularly as several members of the Grenada National Codex Committee are new to Codex work”, said Dr Amiesha Persaud, Head of Standardisation, Grenada Bureau of Standards. “It served as both an excellent introduction for new members and a useful refresher for those with prior experience. The training enhanced our understanding of Codex, its importance within the national context, and how we can effectively engage with and maximize the benefits of the Codex system”.
The training also highlighted why Codex is important to Grenada, particularly in supporting fair trade opportunities for our local products, including cocoa, chocolate, nutmeg, and other spices, while helping to ensure these products meet internationally recognized food safety and quality requirements.
